How to run them, what worked, what next

IEE Innovation Evaluation conference

We are delighted to announce that we will be holding our second Innovation Evaluation conference, Learning from school-led evaluation projects: How to run them, what worked, what next, on Thursday 23 January 2020, in Birmingham.

This conference will look at ways of developing, and evaluating, innovations and change projects in schools, and will include a keynote from Karen Wespieser, director of operations at Driver Youth Trust. Karen will be speaking about considerations when evaluating interventions for learners with special educational needs. By definition, learners with SEN are special. In statistical terms, they can often be outliers. Yet when interventions take place in school, this group are likely to be recipients. How then can we ensure evaluation is inclusive and what are some of the key considerations to bear in mind?

Also speaking are Lisa Whitworth from Sidmouth College and Emma Sutherland from Nesta. Lisa will be talking about running an innovation project and her experience of being able to take this innovation further, scaling up to a larger trial, while Emma will discuss scale-up from a funder’s perspective, sharing why Nesta are interested in school-led projects and the criteria they use when selecting projects to fund.

Over the last three years, the IEE has been supporting more than 30 school-led innovation evaluation projects. In a series of afternoon workshops and discussions, delegates will also have an opportunity to hear from some of these projects. In these sessions, delegates will be able to find out more about the issues that schools have developed innovations to the address, the challenges and successes of running an innovation evaluation project, as well as findings from the evaluations of these projects.
